Home Key Fact Sheets Procerin & Hair Loss
Key Facts - Procerin and Hair Loss
Procerin - Some Questions and Answers
- What is Procerin?
Procerin is a tablet that contains a mixture of herbs, minerals and vitamins that are reputed to stop the production of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) in the scalp.
- Is Procerin a Prescription Medication?
No, Procerin is herbal in origin and no prescription is required.
- What is Dihydrotestosterone?
Dihydrotestosterone is a male hormone produced in the Leydig cells in the testis which stimulates prostate gland growth. It is converted from testosterone to dihydrotestosterone by the action of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase.

- Does Dihydrotestosterone cause hair loss?
Yes, it is thought to cause hair loss in men who are genetically susceptable to male pattern baldness.
- How does Procerin work?
Certain combinations of minerals, herbs and vitamins bind with the 5-alpha reductase enzyme to stop it converting testosterone to dihydrotestosterone. Thus supplements with correctly combined ingredients can reduce or elimate the effects of DHT, stopping hair loss and possibly enabling regrowth, especially in younger men who have hair that is still actively growing (under 35). Procerin is said to block DHT but has no effect on testosterone and therefore does not cause sexual side effects, unlike those that may be caused by prescription drugs.
- Does Procerin have any side effects?
Procerin contains an ingredient called "Saw Palmetto" (which has also been linked to the maintenance of a healthy prostate gland). A few people are sensitive to Saw Palmetto and may experience sickness, diarrhoea or constipation.
- Does Procerin really work?
Procerin is a herbal supplement and as such does not have to undergo rigorous clinical trials and testing (hence it is also a lot cheaper than prescription drugs such as Propecia). There is much anecdotal evidence that it works well for some men, but it will not work for everyone. It will only have a chance of working in those men whose hair loss is due to DHT, therefore it will not work if you have lost your hair due to eg. chemotherapy, or if you are female.
- What does it contain?
The ingredients include Saw Palmetto (as previously mentioned), Nettles, Zinc Sulfate, Gotu Kola, Magnesium, Siberian Ginseng, Vitamin B6, Pumpkin Seed Meal, CJ-11 Factor, Mura Puma Roots and CJ-9 Factor.
- Where can I buy it?
The UK suppliers are Peak Nutrition.
- How much does it cost?
One month's supply costs £24.99, three months supply costs £49.99 and six months supply costs £89.99.
- What if it doesn't work?
